What is Twitcal?
TwitCal is an online public calendar that allows you to create date entries via Twitter.

How does it work?
Easy. To add an entry into TwitCal, just send a tweet including the dd/mm/yy format, like this (dots, dashes or slashes accepted):
20/11/09 This will be your calendar entry
...or using an abbreviated 3-letter month name and numbered day, like this:
Nov 20 2009 This will be your calendar entry
...or the full month name and 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th suffix on the day number, like this:
November 20th 2009 This will be your calendar entry
That's all there is to it. A piece of cake, easy as pie, simple as a donut.
To view your calendar simply visit www.twitcal.com and look up your username in the search box. All dates containing entries will show a speech bubble with a number showing how many entries there are within that date.

Can anybody see my TwitCal?
Yes! Just like Twitter itself, anybody using Twitter can view and/or add to your TwitCal. And you can view/add to theirs!

Isn't it an invasion of my privacy if anybody can see and add to my calendar?
Well, no more so than anybody being able to read and add to your Twitter feed. Think of it more as a calendar containing tasks and reminders rather than detailed information on your whereabouts.

What if my Twitter updates are protected?
If your updates are protected then unfortunately you will not be able to use TwitCal. This is because Twitter search, which is where TwitCal populates from, will not return results from people with protected updates.

Can I only add an entry using Twitter?
No. You can also add an entry directly within TwitCal itself. Simply click on the date box you want to add an entry to, fill in the 'add entry' field and hit Submit. The first time you add an entry via TwitCal youll be prompted for your Twitter login in order to authenticate your account. Voila! You have now created and entry in your TwitCal. This entry will also then appear in your regular Twitter feed.

Who is TwitCal aimed at?
Casual calendar users. We don't see TwitCal as a replacement for traditional calendar
software. In fact it's more aimed at those of us that wouldn't usually keep a calendar. We figured we use Twitter a lot, so why not use it to organize what we're doing and when we're doing it!

Great! Where do I sign up?
Well therein lies the beauty. If you're already signed up to Twitter, you're ready to start using TwitCal. To start using your TwitCal, just tweet using one of the date formats detailed above and away you go!

How do sign in?
You can view Twitter user's calendars in TwitCal without a Twitter account and without signing in. If you want to add events to your calendar, you'll need to sign in.
As TwitCal uses Twitter's API to authenticate you, you never need to give your details to us. Using the
OAuth protocol, we'll redirect you to Twitter to login and grant access to TwitCal. Once this is done, you can add events via the TwitCal interface.

Why can't I delete a calendar entry?
Currently Twitter doesn't immediately delete entries from its search database even if they have been deleted from a Twitter feed. TwitCal uses this search database to populate its calendars and therefore we cannot currently handle entry deletions. We do however hope that this will be addressed by Twitter in the near future. If and when this does happen we'll add the ability to delete entries straight away!

I've tweeted a date entry and it doesn't show up in my calendar, why is this?
The most likely cause of this is that your Twitter updates are protected. Unfortunately at this time we cannot support users who have protected updates due to limitations in the Twitter API.

How do I send an entry to someone else's calendar?
Just as you would if you were tweeting them on Twitter. Simply add their username including the '@' symbol (e.g @username) and then the date and entry text, and send. It will then be entered into their calendar.
If I send someone else a calendar entry, will it also go into mine?
Yes. Any entries you send to others will also appear in your calendar.
Can I send a calendar entry to more than one person at a time?
Yes. You can add as many recipients as you like to your calendar entry, but remember, you're still bound to the 140 character limit of Twitter!
What if I only want to see calendar entries that I have made myself?
Near the top right hand side of the calendar page you will see two radio buttons which allow you to filter your calendar by either 'all entries' or 'only entries' made by the owner of that calendar. By default TwitCal shows 'all entries'.
